One of the easiest ways to create a loop at the end of a rope.
The figure 8 knot is often preferred to this one, but the bowline knot still has many advantages. Easier to tie than a figure eight knot, and especially easier to untie. Be careful, however, as the bowline knot tends to twist on itself and untie itself. It is therefore inconceivable to start once without having counter-secured your bowline knot with a double stopper knot. Less cumbersome than a figure eight knot, it is sometimes preferred by double rope climbers.
